The Campus Ministry team and the religion department host religious retreats for all of our students. Students, separated into smaller groups by grade and gender, attend one full-day retreat per year off campus.

Each retreat focuses on a particular subject and allows for closer fellowship with classmates, deeper understanding of the Catholic faith, even sharing of individual testimonies.

Students even get the opportunity to visit Pilsen, Kansas, to learn more about the life of Fr. Emil Kapaun, the school's namesake. The Chaplain's Cabinet and Peer Ministers also assist in planning the retreats.

Peer Ministry

All juniors will be required to attend a Kairos retreat (a 3-day, 2-night retreat program) led by a team of senior “Peer Ministers.” These retreats will be held at the Heartland Center for Spirituality in Great Bend. Transportation will be provided.

Signups for the Kairos retreats were shared with last year’s sophomores the first week of May. A Google form was sent out, allowing students to indicate their preferences for which KAIROS retreat they would like to attend. Students should be cognizant of working around their sports and extracurricular activity schedules. Students will then be divided out to fill the six retreats for their junior year.

Dates: • September 12-14 • October 17-19 • November 14-16 • December 5-7 • February 27-March 1 • March 27-29 • April 10-12

History of Kairos at KMC

Thirty seniors were selected to be a part of our Peer Ministry Team in the spring of 2022. These students began assisting in planning and leading various retreats in 2022-23 school year, including the KAIROS retreats. Six of these students (Will Anciaux, Dominic Shibley, Andrew Meyer, Emmy Orme, Elyse Erdman and Anna Richardson) attended a KAIROS retreat April 7-9, 2022 with Bishop Miege High School, and were accompanied by Fr. Curtis Hecker, Mrs. Beth Ferraro and Mr. Landon Downing.

This team worked on bringing the KAIROS retreat model back to the KMC community, making necessary adaptations. These students and adults served on KMC’s first KAIROS retreat in August 2022 for the rest of the Peer Ministry team. Then, all the Peer Ministers were trained to lead the KAIROS retreats throughout the year for the junior class.

Peer Ministers are chosen in the spring for the following school year. Each Peer Minister gathers recommendations and completes an interview and application process.
