If you were to mention the late Ed Kriwiel to most people in the KMC community, you would most likely receive back a glance of recognition and a smile of remembrance for this Hall of Famer and his contribution to the school. Ed was the Crusader football coach from 1969 to 1990, leading 9 different teams to state titles. From 1970 to 2007, Ed also coached the boys golf team, which captured 24 state titles under his tutelage.  He began coaching girls golf in 1997, and his teams won 8 league titles.

Ed is the father of Kathy, Jane, Ann, Pete, Mike, Julie, Sarah, Molly and Suzanne, all graduates of KMC between 1973 and 1987. Ed Kriwiel was taken to his heavenly reward on December 2, 2007.

Ed Kriwiel’s contributions to KMC were significant, long-lasting and memorable. From 1969-2007, as coach and Athletic Director, Ed gave his very best to KMC. Ed is a member of the KMC Hall of Fame, the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) Hall of Fame, the Kansas Golf Hall of Fame and the Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame.

For these reasons and many more, we have chosen to honor our friend, coach and teacher, Ed Kriwiel, by naming the annual golf tournament the Kriwiel Classic Golf Tournament. The golf tournament is a fun way to reunite with your fellow Crusaders, other Crusader supporters and friends of KMC in celebrating the memory of our most beloved coach.

Proceeds from the golf tournament benefit the KMC Alumni Association and Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School.

Mark your calendar for this year's Kriwiel Classic, which will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 at 10:00 am at Crestview Country Club. Breakfast and lunch are included with unlimited snacks and beverages.
